Our Starfish Suite is home to our youngest members. Our youngest children are cared for on a ratio of 1:3 in a separate purpose built building to the rear of the main property. It has been specifically designed to ensure warm, friendly spaces that are perfect for this age group. Within the Starfish Suite there is a cosy, carpeted area with a large floor to ceiling bay window allowing our youngest children the opportunity to look out across the garden. They are able to observe the comings and goings of the older children and can keep an eye on our nursery wildlife. Within the suite, there is also a messy play area where sand and water play, plus an array of creative opportunities are available on a daily basis. Our kitchen and changing areas are both designed to ensure that our ratios are maintained at all times. The Starfish Children have access to our spacious garden and as well as a separate garden area and terrace specifically designed for their stage of development. The whole environment provides children with opportunities to explore, experience and develop a positive disposition to learning, accessing a wide variety of activities and resources. We have a dedicated, experienced and qualified staffing team. Each staff member is warm and welcoming. Through close interaction with your child/ren, your key person / buddy will form caring attachments, provide encouragement and act as role models, building children’s confidence and self-esteem.
It is important that young children experience continuity between home and nursery. This is a two way partnership, exchanging and sharing information on a daily basis. All records are carefully logged throughout each day. This information is transferred into your home link contact book informing you with regards to their sleep/rest times/feeding/fluid intake and what kind of day they have experienced including what activities they have participated in. We encourage parent/carers to use this tool to add comments and feedback, to help us provide continuity in the daily care of your child. We welcome you to phone the nursery liaising with your key person/ buddy as often as you feel necessary. All our young children learn through play and interacting with others. Children at Sandcastles enjoy plenty of opportunities to share books, sing, listen and join in with rhymes, music and dancing. The children enjoy a wealth of play and learning opportunities designed to allow free expression and to satisfy natural curiosity. Our Starfish children also have access to our gym and enjoy frequent visits to the library as well as walks to our local amenities eg. the park and shops or even to post some letters! Many working parents like to take advantage of our baby weighing service. Having your baby’s weight regularly checked is important but something that can be difficult to schedule into a busy working week. Strong partnerships with parents and health visitors enable our key-people to take your baby along to their routine weighing appointment and for the information to be recorded accordingly.
Ofsted 2013 The key person and buddy system is extremely well embedded. Young children’s individual needs are lovingly met by nurturing staff, who work tirelessly to make sure new babies feel secure.
